
Passenger Safety Management
This course provides seafarers with the required familiarization and basic safety training for personnel serving on passenger-carrying vessels. It focuses on the competencies needed to respond effectively to onboard hazards and emergency situations appropriate to a participant’s assigned duties. The course also develops an understanding of the procedures and safety measures required to support the safe operation of passenger vessels and the protection of passengers during routine operations and emergencies.
Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to carry out the duties and responsibilities of personnel providing direct services to passengers in passenger spaces, as defined in Sections A-V/2 and A-V/3 of the STCW Code. Training includes, but is not limited to, the ability to:
- Demonstrate awareness of life-saving appliances and vessel control plans.
- Assist passengers in proceeding safely to muster stations and embarkation areas.
- Explain and support passenger mustering procedures.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with passengers during emergency situations.
- Demonstrate the correct use of personal life-saving appliances to passengers.
- Recognize operational limitations that may affect the vessel and apply relevant performance restrictions.
- Understand responsibilities related to embarking and disembarking passengers, with particular attention to persons with disabilities and those requiring additional assistance.
