This course introduces students who have little to no marine experience to all aspects of the mariner’s trade from vessel steering to signaling and flag communications. Students will learn how to work with various chain fiber and wire ropes (knots and splices); how to perform ship maintenance and assist with cargo handling procedures.

Students must take MED STCW Basic Safety, MED STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft, Marine Basic First Aid, and ROC-MC or show evidence of having those certificates in order to obtain their Bridge Watch Rating certificate.

This course provides training in the basic theory and operation of an Electronic Chart Display & Information System (ECDIS). It examines the use of ECDIS to enhance navigation safety and its use for practical passage planning and monitoring through the safe use of the equipment, its capabilities and limitations, and effective use of Electronic Navigation Charts (ENC) and ECDIS related information. This course is now mandatory for all ECDIS fitted vessels.

GMDSS – General Operator’s Certificate

This comprehensive course is designed for radio station personnel, both ashore and afloat, operating in accordance with the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). It covers maritime mobile and satellite services, focusing on the operation and regulatory requirements of basic ship station equipment.

Students will gain hands-on experience with the GMDSS communications matrix, including making distress, urgency, and safety calls while adhering to established safety communication procedures.

The course also covers general communication procedures and the use of Fleet Broadband and Iridium A3 satellite communications equipment in simulated real-world scenarios. Additionally, the course follows the training recommendations outlined in the International Maritime Organization’s Resolution A.703(17).

High Voltage Safety – Operational

This course introduces students to High Voltage (HV) systems and focuses on safety when working on energized electrical equipment. Students will learn to safely engage and disengage 600 voltage equipment, recognize the dangers of electric shock when working in unsafe areas, provide assistance in determining the severity of potential exposure to High Voltage flash hazards, plan safe work practices, and the importance of proper personal protective equipment.

This course provides student with sufficient knowledge to make appropriate decisions in complex navigational situations including navigation emergency situations. To effectively plan, organize and manage a bridge team, to comply with the standards regarding watchkeeping and to handle the maneuver of a large vessel in confined water in a simulated environment. Also, the student will be able to effectively coordinate a search and rescue operation. At the end of the training, the student will prepare and execute a voyage plan from berth to berth using the necessary instruments and publications while assuming the duties and responsibilities of the master aboard ships having specified maneuvering characteristics.
