Ship Management Level 3
Students will acquire knowledge of the Canada Shipping Act, 2001; Marine Personnel Regulations; Pilotage Act; Canada Labour Code, Part II; Quarantine Act; Marine Transportation Security Act; and the Abandoned, Hazardous or Wrecked Vessels Act.
Regulations to be covered include Marine Personnel Regulations, Pacific Pilotage Regulations, Shipping Casualty Reporting Regulations; Potable Water on Board Trains, Vessels, Aircraft and Buses Regulations; Vessel Certificates Regulations; Vessel Registration and Tonnage Regulations; Vessel Clearance Regulations; Load Line Regulations; Marine Transportation Security Regulations; Quarantine Regulations; Vessel Traffic Services Zones Regulations and the Vessel Pollution and Dangerous Chemical Regulations.
Other subjects include; charter parties and bills of lading; marine insurance; the Salvage Convention and Customs procedures.
This course is approved by the Private Training Institutions Branch of BC.
- Apply international maritime conventions, including SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, the Load Line Convention, and related agreements.
- Interpret Canadian maritime legislation and regulations.
- Explain the legal authority and responsibilities of the Master.
- Apply the principles of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
- Monitor compliance with safety and environmental protection requirements.
- Explain obligations related to marine casualty reporting and investigation.
- Interpret charter parties, bills of lading, and ship’s business documentation.
- Apply principles of marine insurance and liability.
- Manage shipboard documentation and statutory certification.
The student must be at least 18 years of age to enroll in this course.
